Level One Indian Education for All (IEFA) training is for elementary teachers new to Billings Public Schools or teachers that have not had the training. This three-hour course provides a basic foundation for implementing IEFA in your classroom. In includes information about the distinct and unique cultures and heritages of Montana American Indian Tribes. Participants will explore lessons in their grade level or specialized content areas using resources that have been examined and approved.

  2. Comprehend meaning of Indian Education for All Constitutional Intent 1999 (HB 538) MCA 20-1-501.
  3. Gain awareness and meaning of the seven Essential Understandings regarding Montana Indians.
  4. Identify the tribes and reservations of Montana and describe the importance of this knowledge.
  5. Reflect on curriculum content, resources and teaching strategies that will help us honor American Indian perspectives throughout our curriculum, reduce misinformation and stereotypes.
  6. Complete a full coaching cycle which includes planning, modeling, and teaching of an IEFA lesson from the BPS IEFA website or approved lesson.
