It is not necessary for teachers to know the intricacies of the history of federal Indigenous policy periods, but understanding its main legislative pieces and outcomes helps provide context for the contemporary experiences of Indigenous students and communities. Each of the federal policy time periods is often connected to other essential understandings and, therefore can be used as an umbrella standard for all the understandings. Teachers will find ways to incorporate the Federal Policy periods into their grade level and content area.
